Kong,
I like your web very much.
Do those beautiful pictures taken in Laos make you home sick?

Thank you Moo, I appreciate your compliment.

I wasn't born in Asia, so technicially I wouldn't be homesick. However, the photos definitely increase my interests even more so to visit Southeast Asia. I have heard that Vangs, as it's my last name, are restricted from visiting Laos because of the Vang Pao debacle.

I will say though that I will make my way to Thailand and other parts of Asia as soon as I finish my degree.

Kong

Hi Kong

Wang weing....I am not so sure about the spelling is one of the greatest place I had ever been. It is a small village in Laos about 3 hours drive(slowly). There you raft your tube ( from car tyre) with cold beer in your hand along the winding river of warm tropical stream enjoy the picturesque lime stone formation mountains. Such a heaven on earth to me!

Yes...I should assume that you are not born there in Loas but you are for sure selected lovely pictures for your site as if you knew those places very well and that fool me.

Please come to visit us and we will arrange seeing RJF in the wild within your trip.

While in Laos you will be so proud of your country with rich in calture and untouch nature.

Please come.

Moo

Wow, that sounds like paradise to me, even more so than a trip to Hawaii and the likes.

And thanks for your invitation, believe me, I will take you up on your offer on seeing the jungle fowls. :D

Hi!!

"Decoy" as a bait to call wild red jungle fowl. Decoy normally a mature male which call wild rjf with his crow. Normally crossbreed rjf do it well. Pure rjf cannot be used as decoy.

Another type of Decoy which i used before is crossbreed adult female. Actually it depends on the seasons of rjf.

best regards..

Hi Mr Moo!!

I bought 2 male from Dr Amin. It is not pure rjf but crossbreed rjf & still young male. So i need to train them as decoy.

So, i'm trying to train this male as a pickat or decoy but i don't have guidance. Although i have friends which experience on training rjf but it is a good practice to learn another methods to train rjf as the decoy.

Hopefully we can change some info from the members here. Hopefully they can helps me. The problem actually i don't understand thai language & i don't know any software to translate thai to english. But thru imageposter, I saw few image on 'racik' or trap. So i think this groups should have few guy catch wild rjf.

best regards.

Sam,

Some basic things you may want to do:

1) Tame the bird. Tie the bird on a short leash to the leg and let him learn that that he has to stay on a branch that you put him on. At first the bird will try to fly off of it, but after a few failed attempts, he will know to stay on the branch he was put on. I use leg ties that are leather, but with a elastic stringer so that it gives when the bird falls. This way the bird can hang without hurting himself too much and it enables him to fly back onto the branch he was placed on. Position the stringer so that the he has no option but to stay on the chosen branch.

2) Keep the male by himself. He will be very cocky and will respond to a hen's call. It is very important that you be able to mimic the hen's call, either with a instrument of some kind or by blowing the sounds with the aide of your hands.

Hi Sam and Kong,

Thank you Kong to explain about how to train Decoy.

Sam I will ask friends in Thai about perhaps they are different trick about this training.
I like to raise hybrid RJF also as they are much more manageable than the pure one.
Hybrid RJF are easy to find and we have so plenty of them in Thialand because they lay eggs all year round.

I will be back to you once I heard from our friends here about the decoy.
Mean while if both of you have more questions you are welcome to ask us and we all be happy to answer you with our best knowledge.

Moo

Here is the web about training decoy but unfortunately it was written in English. If I find free time I will translate it for you.

I put up a new video of some young stags I produced this year. I'd like to hear some opinions on their crows if possible.
